Since July 20, landlords can finally execute judgments rendered by the Régie du logement.

It is now possible to execute judgments of the Régie du logement

On March 17, a ministerial order was signed to suspend any court decision ordering the repossession of a dwelling or the eviction of a tenant. The government had subsequently announced the gradual resumption of the execution of judgments. It was therefore possible to enforce a judgement as of July 7 if the judgement ordering eviction was issued before March 1 and from July 20 for decisions issued since March 1.

According to a survey conducted in June by CORPIQ, 13% of landlords were waiting for a hearing at the Régie for non-payment of rent and 3% of landlords had an eviction judgment that they could not enforce. For CORPIQ, this situation is totally unacceptable, because thousands of landlords who had an eviction judgment in their hands were forced to continue housing tenants who had not paid for months.

The association is asking the government to set up a compensation fund for landlords. CORPIQ is still waiting for a follow-up on its request from Minister Laforest and Premier of Quebec Legault.
