Modernizing and renovating rental properties: A practical guide for everyone

With nearly 40% of Quebec households living in rental housing and and the majority of rental buildings dating back to before 1979, modernizing the rental housing stock has become a priority to maintain the affordability and quality of housing in Quebec.

To address this challenge, the Corporation des propriétaires immobiliers du Québec (CORPIQ) is committed to supporting both landlords and tenants. Through the release of a practical guide titled "Renovate to better live, together" CORPIQ aims to simplify and educate on the key steps of a renovation project.

A Guide to Foster Harmonious Dialogue

This guide is designed as a user-friendly resource for everyone. Its primary goal is to clarify the rights and obligations of both landlords and tenants when it comes to renovations, while promoting constructive and responsible communication.

It provides a summary of current regulations, practical advice to successfully carry out modernization projects and useful information such as resources and regulatory texts.

Wide Distribution for Maximum Impact

The guide will be available digitally and free of charge to ensure neutral and accessible information reaches as many people as possible, contributing to improved living conditions within Quebec’s rental housing sector.

A social media awareness campaign will accompany the launch to inform both landlords and tenants about the guide’s availability. All stakeholders are encouraged to explore this tool and share it within their networks to support this transparent and educational initiative.
