Compulsive hoarding disorder awareness week: A first in Quebec

News

From May 19 to 23, 2025, the first-ever Compulsive Hoarding Disorder (CHD) Awareness Week will take place in Quebec. Organized by Comité d’action pour le trouble d’accumulation compulsive (CATAC), this initiative aims to raise awareness about CHD, reduce stigma, and engage key stakeholders – including landlords – around concrete solutions.

Compulsive hoarding disorder awareness week: A first in Quebec

Why landlords are concerned
Compulsive Hoarding Disorder is a complex mental health issue that can have significant consequences on the cleanliness, safety, and coexistence in rental properties. Landlords are often on the front lines in identifying these situations and can be part of the solution, in collaboration with the individuals affected, their loved ones, and community resources.

The CATAC offers several ways to participate in this week, including a webinar on CHD, which will take place on May 22 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This webinar will be an opportunity to learn more about this mental health disorder, its impacts, and effective strategies for working with tenants living with CHD.
Other activities are available through the CATAC newsletter, which you can subscribe to for updates.

For any questions or to plan an activity, please contact Carole Dozo, CATAC Coordinator.
