If you own or co-own a rental property, mark February 28, 2026, in your calendar. This date can have a direct impact on your tax obligations and make all the difference for your tenants and subtenants. Want to know why?
Here's the answer: February 28, 2026, is the deadline for sending RL-31 slips to Revenu Québec and to your tenants and subtenants. These slips must be filed for all eligible dwellings for which rent was paid or payable on December 31, 2025.
Why is the RL-31 slip important?
The RL-31 slip is important for tenants and subtenants who have a lease on December 31 because it allows them to claim all the solidarity tax credit amounts they qualify for when they file their income tax return. In other words, the slip can give them a big tax break.
It’s better to file online!
Revenu Québec gives you fast and easy options for preparing your RL-31 slips online. So why wait? File them right away using the service in My Account for individuals.
You can also use the Prepare and View the RL-31 Slip service on Revenu Québec’s website. If you used the service last year, good news! You can reuse last year’s information and simply update it if you need to.
The service lets you:
-
prepare RL-31 slips for 2025 by sending Revenu Québec information about the occupant(s) of an eligible dwelling you own (copy 1 of the RL-31 slip)
-
view RL-31 slips you’ve already filed
-
change or cancel RL-31 slips already filed for 2025
Note: If you file more than 5 RL-31 slips, you must file them online.
