The Régie finds that unsanitary is not the same as unfit for habitation

In a ruling made this past the winter, the Régie du logement refused a building owner’s request to cancel the lease based on allegations that the tenants had made the apartment unfit for habitation. However, the housing board did order the tenants to “properly maintain the apartment,” as evidence was shown that they were not meeting their requirement to keep the dwelling clean.
