When giving notice from a landlord to a tenant, it is important to know the distinction between "giving" and "receiving" notice. In the following judgment, the landlord never received confirmation of receipt of a notice of rent increase for the last four consecutive years. Therefore, she could not claim any amounts owing on the basis that her tenant was trying to get around the increase by ignoring the notices.
