Coordinated by the Office municipal d'habitation de Montréal (OMHM)'s Service d’aide à la recherche de logement (SARL), this initiative combines the efforts of numerous partners to provide tailored support to households. The collaboration is built around two complementary objectives: helping households secure permanent housing and, when all other options have been exhausted, providing temporary emergency accommodation.
To facilitate access to permanent housing, the SARL works with a wide range of community and private-sector partners. Property owners represented by CORPIQ contribute to the partners' committee by identifying available rental units. This year, Les Résidences Soleil – Famille Savoie has joined the initiative by offering housing options tailored to the needs of seniors.
In parallel, the SARL provides households with a housing search tool on the OMHM website listing available rental units and offers personalized support throughout the housing search process. This assistance may include identifying suitable housing options, referring households to the appropriate resources, and registering applicants on waiting lists for social, community, or non-profit housing.
When permanent housing cannot be secured immediately, a second component of the initiative ensures that no household is left without shelter. Through the collaboration of several partners, the OMHM has access to hotel rooms and emergency accommodation provided by community organizations, allowing households to stay in temporary housing until a long-term solution is found.
“July 1 is a collective effort. Every year, partners from the community, institutional, and private sectors combine their resources to support households facing difficult situations. The SARL plays a central role by coordinating these interventions and helping residents find the solution that best meets their needs. The addition of Les Résidences Soleil – Famille Savoie further expands the options available, particularly for seniors, and reflects our shared commitment to increasing housing opportunities,” said Isabelle Pépin, Executive Director of the OMHM.
“Rental housing providers are an essential part of the housing continuum. Collaboration between the community, private, and public sectors is vital to delivering solutions that meet the diverse needs of households,” added Nathalie Mercier, General Manager of CORPIQ.
This collaborative initiative highlights the importance of cooperation among all organizations working to support Montreal households by providing permanent housing solutions whenever possible, or safe temporary accommodation when necessary.
